Located beyond Paia at mile marker #9 of Hana Highway, Ho’okipa Beach Park was named the 5th most beautiful beach in the United States by Trip Advisor in 2023.
Since it is known as one of the best wind-surfing and board surfing beaches on Maui, tourists stop at the overlook to watch the surfing below, then traipse down to the beach to view the turtles that obliviously bask in the sun while water sports take place in the waves behind them. Look carefully at the base of the cliffs- what you believe are many scattered boulders in the sand are typically a mix of boulders and sleeping turtles!
