Playing America's Popular Sport under palm trees
We’re so excited to announce that pickleball courts are now available for our guests! Tucked onto the Makena Surf tennis courts and surrounded by beautiful palm trees, America’s popular sport will call your name when you stay with us!
Whether you ‘re a seasoned player or have never stepped foot on a pickleball court before, this lively game is fun for everyone! And playing under the Hawaiian sun with palm trees swaying overhead as birds call to eachother promises you a magical experience that will be hard to top.
How to Prepare for a Pickleball Game at Makena Surf
• Paddles & Balls: If you have a favorite paddle, it’s an easy thing to pack in your checked luggage between your clothing! If you don’t have a favorite or don’t want to pack it, paddles and balls are available to check out at the Makena Surf Office.
Sunscreen: While the court is surrounded by palm trees, this doesn’t always guarantee sun protection. Put on your SPF of choice before you begin playing. Once the game gets going, you’ll be so engaged that you won’t even notice if you’re getting burned so it’s best to start out with sunscreen on!
Water Bottle: Pack a water bottle to stay well hydrated while you play. Trust us, pickleball won’t be the only activity you want water for, as many of our favorite Maui Activities take place outside!
Shoes and clothing: Be ready to dodge and twist your way through a game of pickleball! This fast-paced game requires comfortable sports clothing and good shoes that will grip the court as you stretch to make the perfect save. This might be the only time on Maui when we recommend leaving your flip-flops at home!
Know the Hours: At Makena Surf, we all take noise seriously so that everyone can enjoy a peaceful Maui stay. The pickleball courts are available from 9am to 6pm so as to be considerate of every resident.
Cool down afterwards: Leave time in your schedule to dip in the ocean to cool off after your game! Makena Surf sits right on Po’olenalena Beach, and it takes about 2 minutes to get from our condo to the water!
