When you stay in one of our Arch Cape beach houses, these experiences aren’t something you plan around—they unfold naturally from your home base by the sea.

And if you’re a day visitor to Cannon Beach, you will love exploring this beautiful, quieter beach.

Tidepooling Just Steps Away

Low tide transforms the shoreline into a living classroom. From our Arch Cape beach houses, it’s an easy walk to the water’s edge, where tide pools appear between rocky outcroppings—home to anemones, crabs, starfish, and gooseneck barnacles.

Staying close to the beach means you can head out exactly when the tide is right—no rushing, no driving, just wander and explore.

Watch for Bald Eagles from the Beach

With fewer crowds and a quieter setting, Arch Cape feels wonderfully wild. Bald eagles are often spotted soaring overhead or perched in nearby trees. Morning coffee on the deck or an afternoon beach walk can turn into an unexpected wildlife moment.

One of the joys of our Arch Cape homes is how often nature comes to you—sometimes without ever leaving the house.

Explore Sea Caves at Low Tide

Low tide opens access to sea caves carved into the coastline—places that feel fleeting and special because they’re only available in specific windows of time. Staying nearby lets you explore at your own pace instead of watching the clock.

Our guests love being close enough to catch these moments without planning an entire day around them.

Search for Sand Dollars at Very Low Tide

On very low tide days, the sand near the shoreline often hides delicate treasures. Finding sand dollars becomes a quiet, patient activity—one that feels especially meaningful when it’s right outside your door.

If you hope to take some home, be sure you know how to identify the sand dollars that are no longer alive! If they are brown, dark grey, purple or green this indicates that the animal is still alive. If they are white or a very light grey, you can pick these ones up.

It’s these small, unplanned moments that make staying in Arch Cape feel so memorable.

Find the Arch at Extremely Low Tide

Arch Cape is named for a natural rock arch that appears only at extremely low tides. Spotting it feels like discovering a local secret—one best experienced when you’re already nearby and keeping an eye on the tide charts.

Walk south to the very end of Arch Cape. In an extremely low tide, you can make your way through the exposed rocks to continue along the shore to the arch. Be sure to watch the tide so that you don’t get trapped on the exposed beach.

Being based in Arch Cape means you don’t miss the rare moments—you’re already in the right place.

Walk the Historic Roadbed at Hug Point

Just a short walk north, Hug Point offers one of the coast’s most unique walks. At low tide, you can stroll the historic stagecoach roadbed carved into the rock, imagining the years that this was used by horses and cars alike to get around the cliff outcropping as they used the beach as the only road going south.

After a morning adventure, it’s comforting to return to the calm of Arch Cape rather than busier beach towns.

Enjoy a Truly Quiet Beach—All Day Long

Even in peak summer, Arch Cape remains refreshingly uncrowded. Wide beaches, open space, and a slower pace make it ideal for families, long walks, and quiet afternoons watching the waves.

Our beach houses are designed to complement this setting—offering space to gather, relax, and reconnect after a day outdoors.

End the Day with a Beach Bonfire

Cool summer evenings invite slow, simple traditions. At Arch Cape, a beach bonfire at dusk becomes the highlight of the day—s’mores, laughter, and the steady sound of the waves as the sky darkens. Conversation will slowly die down as the stars gentle appear, beckoning you to linger a little longer and stargaze.
