Why Choose Us
Family Owned & Operated
We are Dennis and Lara, a father-daughter team. What started with a love for the dramatic Oregon Coast and the relaxing island of Maui eventually turned into a thoughtfully modeled business. We began with a single property on the Oregon coast, and our love for these stunning locations inspired us to share them with others.
Communication is Key
Our reservation process is simple, and our cell phones are always on. Lara is your point person and she loves interacting with you!

We strive to anticipate every possible vacation home need and seek to provide the highest quality of amenities. Whether it’s linens, mattresses, furniture, or household supplies–you can trust us to provide you with luxury.
Lara's Favorite Day on the Oregon Coast
Whether it’s staying at our Arch Cape Oceanside Escape or The House at Arch Cape, there’s nothing I enjoy more than starting the day by making a big breakfast for the family to gather around. We all linger on the decks with a cup of coffee before traipsing down to explore the tidepools, caves, and waterfalls just north of these homes.
We can experience bald eagles overhead, sand dollars in the sand at our feet, and tidepool creatures at low tide. Stopping by the hot water stations outside the homes, we wash off the sand from our adventures and head back inside.
Later in the day, we often plan a trip into town to explore the art galleries, boutiques, and candy shops, or we head out for an afternoon hike to take in the Oregon coast beauty from the middle of the Oregon forest.
Evenings are finished with a bonfire, gazing intently for the ever-elusive Green Flash, and savoring the opportunity to just be still together underneath the giant Milky Way that slowly emerges as the sunlight fades.
Any day together on the Oregon coast is a perfect day!
What Our Guests are Saying
Dennis’s Favorite Day in Maui
My day always starts with coffee, using Maui Coffee Roasters’ Maui Blend, which we pick up right after we touch down in Kahului. A couple of apple bananas, and we’re off to the Dumps for the best snorkeling on Maui (that’s if I haven’t scheduled a whale-watching tour on a zodiac). I always take some cash for our 8:00 am swim to stop at our favorite roadside fruit stand on the way back to the condo to buy fresh pineapple, mango, and papaya (and probably more apple bananas!). If I didn’t see a Honu (green sea turtle) at the Dumps, then I’ll take a quick swim at “Turtle Town”, the point right in front of the condo where I am sure to see 5-10 of these beautiful sea creatures.
At this point, Lara normally talks me into a dip in the hot tub. If it’s a Saturday we may hurry this all along so we can get to the Maui Swap Meet in Kahului. If it’s winter, we may hang out at the condo and look for hump-back whales. Watching them from our dining room table or lanai is such a treat.
My wife and I love to explore the island so now we have a decision to make – do we head to Kaanapali, the Upcountry, Paia and beyond, or Central Maui? I know that I can find some of my favorite art studios on any of these trips, as well as incredible views and great food!
If we head to West Maui, we get to enjoy snorkeling at Honolua Bay, whale watching while eating Portuguese fried rice at the Gazebo Restaurant and shopping for a new art piece at Totally Hawaiian Gift Gallery. The evening winds down with us soaking in the sunset while eating dinner at Hula Grill.
Visiting the Sherri Reeve and Maui Hands Art Galleries in Makawao, touring the Kula Botanical Gardens, and getting to visit with either the Worcester glass-blowing family or painter Curtis Wilson Cost in their galleries might call us Upcountry. Of course, the sunset will either be viewed from the top of Haleakala with dinner in Paia afterwards or we can watching it over dinner at the Kula Lodge before heading back to Makena Surf.
Dennis’s Favorite Day Continues
But then again, we might go to the Maui Hands Gallery in Paia before running out to watch turtles and surfers at Ho’okipa Beach Park. Wondering if Aunty Sandy’s will be open selling her Maui’s best banana bread, we consider a drive to Ke’anae Penninsula, knowing that we will get to experience a bit of the Road to Hana without committing the day to it. If I feel generous (and remembered to make reservations well in advance!), we might enjoy a fabulous dining experience at Mama’s Fish House on our way home. But with our design-the-day-as-it-happens approach to Maui, it’s more likely that we’ll enjoy the same fresh fish prepared more simply at Paia Fish House in Paia as we make our way back to Makena Surf.
Finally, we would certainly consider a trip to Central Maui, where we usually start out at the Maui Swap Meet but will certainly leave time to take in the ‘Iao Valley and Needle, making sure to stop for some banana bread and fresh fruit at another favorite road-side fruit stand. This trip might include driving the Kahekili Highway to see Steve and Christine Turnbull in their art gallery. It would certainly include a stop at the Maui Tropical Plantation, hopefully on the way home so we can enjoy dinner at Café O’lei. Regardless of what entree we choose there, we are going to finish the evening off with their version of Malasadas – such a treat!
But wait, maybe we just stay local! There’s also a Maui Hands Gallery at the Shops of Wailea, malasadas at Sugar Beach Bake Shop, whale watching with a walk along the Wailea Oceanfront Boardwalk, fish tacos at South Maui Fish Company, and all the water sports you could want right here. And there’s both Paia Fish House and Café O’lei here in Kihei as well, not to mention da Kitchen with their wonderful Hawaiian BBQ! And we can take any of these food items back to watch the sunset from our own private lanai.
Hmm, maybe I need one more apple banana while I ponder this hard decision. Just another average day in paradise!

Our Love for Art
At Heritage Vacation Homes, we love celebrating the local art scene by showcasing pieces from nearby art galleries. Instead of a home filled with generic art, you will find each room decorated with a variety of art mediums from local artists that capture the essence of the area.
We hope that these carefully chosen pieces give you an immersive experience that provides both the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the area when indoors while also building a deeper connection to the community.
